Assistance Plan

Overview

The OCA Assistance Plan is a way for coaches to financially help other coaches at the death of an Assistance Plan member or their member spouse. Members will be notified by mail of each death. This is a way for coaches to help coaches at the worst moment in their lives. Many coaches' families depend on this payment to help pay for funeral expenses.

Each member who is enrolled in the Assistance plan, then will be required to pay $10.00 per death (if the coach only is a member of the Assistance Plan) or $20.00 per death (if the coach and spouse are members). Members will have 30 days to pay each death notice.

Once the office is notified of the members death, the office staff will check to make sure the member is up to date on their payments and then a check will be issued by certified mail to the beneficiary of the member who passed away.

The Executive Director will verify with the beneficiary the correct address and additional information needed before
the check is sent.

APPLICATION LINKS

New Applicant Criteria

Only current OCA members who are full-time active, in-state coaches are allowed membership in the Assistance Plan. Once a coach has moved into retirement status, the coach and spouse are considered ineligible for membership in the Assistance Plan. A coach and spouse must join before attaining retirement status.  Applicants who are over the age of 55 are not eligible. Applicants cannot have any pre-existing conditions.

New applicants will be verified by the Executive Director through their school administrator. New Assistance Plan members will be subject to a one year, twelve month grace period. A death during the grace period will not receive full benefits.  In the event that a death should occur during the grace period, the beneficiary will receive a two hundred and fifty dollar ($250.00) benefit for each month of Assistance Plan membership.

Surviving Spouse

A surviving spouse is the paid Assistance Plan member who is the wife/husband of a deceased Assistance Plan coach member.  A surviving spouse does not need to maintain an OCA membership, but must keep their Assistance Plan payments current in order to remain a member in good standing in the Assistance Plan.

OCA Membership

In order to continue their membership in the Assistance Plan, Assistance Plan coach members must maintain their membership in the OCA by registering and paying their OCA membership dues every year, even after retirement.  (The exception is a surviving spouse of dual memberships.)  Failure to maintain an OCA membership results in the closing of said coach member(s) Assistance Plan account.

Closed Accounts

Assistance Plan accounts that have fallen behind in payments will be considered delinquent and will be closed.
