Athlete Health, Safety, and Performance Considerations
12:00 noon -- Dr. Quincy R. Johnson, Ph.D.
Dr. Johnson’s presentation titled, “Athlete Health, Safety, and Performance Considerations” will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about current health, safety, and performance considerations for athletes. Additionally, attendees will have an opportunity to develop their own framework for each component covered.
Quincy R. Johnson, Ph.D. is a sport scientist, strength and conditioning coach, and sport science researcher. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Kinesiology, Applied Health and Recreation at Oklahoma State University and serves as the Director of the Cowboy Athletic Performance Laboratory.

Colonel Flowers is a Leader Development coach and emcee, he incorporates humor while sharing anecdotes from experiences in the Army, the outdoors, raising daughters and 30+ years of marriage while serving alongside our nation’s most elite leaders in sports and industry. This presentation will aid individuals seeking inspiration and practical advice on overcoming challenges and leading with purpose.
Colonel (ret) J. Craig Flowers is a 4th generation native Texan originally from San Antonio. His 25+ years in our military encompassed nearly a decade overseas, including three years in The Kingdom of Morocco as a diplomat and military attaché. His final military assignment was at West Point where he taught and later served as a Director of Cadet Activities and Assistant Baseball Coach. Founder of The Sideline Leadership CO., he serves Educators (Texas ESCs), NCAA & High School Coaches, Police Departments, CEO’s and their staff on Character, Culture and Leader Development. Along with World Champion Tie-Down Roper and Texan Stran Smith, he co-authored “A Colonel and A Cowboy”, a #1 Best Selling book that has reached thousands across the country.

COACHING 101-A How to Guide for a Successful Coaching Career

COACHING 101 is a career-to-leadership guide for coaches, covering how to get hired (networking, preparation, interviews), succeed on the job (professionalism, earned respect, staff relations, and working with administrators, boards, booster clubs, and parents), lead as a new head coach, respond and rebound after being fired, and coach today’s student-athletes amid trauma, phone culture, and PTSD—while building team culture, aligning expectations with reality, and using failure as a pathway to long-term success.
Bill Blankenship is a veteran football coach with 40 years of coaching experience, including 30 years as a high school head coach. He has led programs at Eastwood Christian, Spiro, Edmond Memorial, Union, Fayetteville (AR), and Owasso, winning six state championships and posting a 286–87 record. Blankenship also served as head coach at the University of Tulsa, where he won a conference championship and a Liberty Bowl title. Blankenship has also coached collegiately at Memphis. A Spiro, Oklahoma native and University of Tulsa letterman, he and his wife Angie (married 1978) have three sons and 13 grandchildren.

Oklahoma State Department of Health-Coaching Boys Into Men
1:30 pm -- Christian Bonds & Kenner Wignall, Oklahoma State Department of Health
Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM) is an evidence-based violence prevention program that equips high school coaches to help male athletes build healthy relationship skills, respect others, and support well-being. Through 12 brief weekly discussions during the sports season, coaches use the CBIM Card Series to guide conversations that can positively influence team, school, and community culture.
Christian Bonds is a Project Coordinator with the Oklahoma State Department of Health, serving in the Injury Prevention Service. His work focuses on preventing childhood injuries through initiatives in violence prevention, concussion prevention in athletics, adverse and childhood experiences. He is also a certified Coaching Boys Into Men Advocate and has trained coaches across Oklahoma to implement the program. Christian earned a Master of Public Policy from the College of William & Mary and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy Leadership from the University of Mississippi.
Kenner Wignall is the Injury Prevention Project Coordinator at the Oklahoma State Department of Health, where he supports partnerships and injury prevention efforts focused on violence prevention, motor vehicle safety, and seasonal injuries. He holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Oklahoma and a Certificate in Public Health through the National Board of Public Health Examiners.
